Definition of ringworm:

In the feet: it is called athlete's foot or tinea pedis.

It is called jock itch or tinea cruris when it affects the perineal region. 

When it is present on the body, it is referred to as ringworm tinea corporis. 

 It is also called tinea cavities when it affects the scalp.

Causes of ringworm disease : 

Ringworm is a fungal infection caused by common mold as parasites that live on the cells in the outer layer of the skin. It may be spread in the following ways:

*Human to human:

Ringworm often spreads by direct, skin-to-skin contact with the infected person.

*Animal to human:

 You can contract ringworm by touching an animal with ringworm. Ringworm can spread while petting or grooming cards or dogs and It's also fairly common in cows.

*Object to humans:

Ringworm can spread by contact with objects or surfaces that an infected person or animal has recently touched or rubbed against, such as a towel, clothes, bedding and linens, combs, and brushes.

*Soil to humans:

In rare cases, ringworm can be spread by contact with infected soil. 

Symptoms of wringing worm:

Symptoms of the wringing worm vary depending on the site of infection. With the infection of  the skin you  may find the following:

*Itchy, red, or scaly patches, or raised areas of skin called plaques. 

*Patches that are developed to be blisters or pustules these patches may be redder on the outside edges making aring. 

The ringworm occurs in nails it is called dermatophytes onychomycosis. The nails may become thicker or discolored, or they may begin to crack. 

*IF your scalp is called tinea capitis, the hair around the area may break or fall off, and bald patches may develop. 

Diagnosis of ringworm

The doctor will diagnose ringworm by examining your skin by using a black light to view your skin in the affected area. The doctor may confirm a diagnosis of ringworm by requesting certain tests:

*Skin biopsy:

By taking a sample of the infected skin or discharge from a blister and sending it to a laboratory to test it for the presence of fungus.

*Koh exam:

By scrubbing off a small infected area on the slide and putting potassium liquid drops on it the KOH breaks apart. 

What are ringworm stages?

Ringworm has two stages:

*Initial stage:

At this stage, you may notice a pink or red irritated patch of skin. Sometimes, it appears very dry and scaly, not necessarily like ringworm.

*Second stage:

At this stage, you will notice that the lesion starts to grow in size. The center of the rash may appear healthy skin with a surrounding scaly area.

Medical treatment for ringworm:

The doctor may prescribe various medications depending on the severity of your ringworm infection. 

*Jock itch, athlete’s foot, and ringworm of the body can be treated with topical medications like antifungal creams, gels, ointments, or sprays.

*Ringworm of the scalp or nails may require: 

Strength oral medications such as griseofulvin or terbinafine behind using over-the-counter medications and antifungal skin creams may be recommended for use as well. These products may contain miconazole, clotrimazole, terbinafine, or other ingredients.

Several essential oils, listed below, can help as home remedies for ringworm. Before using essential oils, you must test that you are not allergic to them first. Put the essential oil by adding three to five drops of carrier oil like olive.

Then, rub it onto the healthy skin in an area the size of a dime. If you do not react within 12 to 24 hours, it must be safe to use on your infection. 

These oils include :

1. Soap and water

If you hear ringworm, you must keep the area as clean as possible. This helps to prevent the spreading of the rash and helps to keep the affected area under control.

Wash the affected area with water and antibacterial soap every day before applying other home remedies on top of it. Dry the area after showering, as moisture makes the fungus spread.

Pine and coal soap are older home remedies for ringworm They might be used, but they can irritate sensitive skin.

2. Apple cider vinegar

It has strong antifungal properties, so it may be used as home remedies for ringworm when applied topically on the affected area. To apply it, soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and squeeze the cotton ball over your skin. Do this three times per day.

 

3. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is very important as home remedies for ringworm as it is considered to be antifungal and antibacterial, and it’s used today for the same purposes. It can be essianaly effective in treating fungal skin infections. We can use it by applying the tea tree oil directly to the affected area two or three times daily with a cotton ball or swab.

 

4. Coconut oil

Coconut oil has both microbial and antifungal properties so it is very important as home remedies for ringworm. It is easy to apply to the scalp and an effective hair conditioner, coconut oil could be a good treatment for scalp ringworm.

 

5. Turmeric

Turmeric has several health benefits, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties and  It’s also an antifungal that inhibits growth. Apply it to your skin and let it until dries. You can also drink turmeric water or turmeric tea daily to get internal benefits.

 

6. Aloe vera

Aloe vera has long been used as a home remedy for ringworm as it has anti-bacterial and fungal effects and also decreases symptoms of itchiness, inflammation, and discomfort. APPLYING aloe vera gel directly to the area. Do this at least three times per day.

 

7. Oregano oil

Oregano oil is very important as home remedies for worm infections as it is more antifun l than other commercial products that are found and can decrease and treat fungal skin infections; it is used in treating athletes' feet and ringworm.

Mix a few drops with a carrier oil like coconut oil, and apply it to the affected area three times daily.

8. Lemongrass oil or tea

The lemongrass oil extract is essential as a home remedy for ringworm. Lemongrass both have antifungal properties that can help treat fungal skin infections like ringworm.

Applying lemongrass oil by mixing a few drops of lemongrass oil with a carrier oil. Apply it directly on the skin twice daily.

9. Powdered licorice

IT has an antimicrobial effect, and research has found that the extracts of licorice could be used as an alternative treatment for fungal infections.

Mix with eight teaspoons of powdered licorice in a cup of water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, decrease the heat and simmer for ten minutes. Stir until it makes a paste. When the mixture is cool enough to touch, apply the paste to the affected area twice per day.
